Ruby’s Birthday = Pizza Love

Our dear friend Ruby turned a year older last week and we took him to Atlanta’s premiere pizza joint, Antico Pizza Napoletana. This place is legit, certified by the pizza gods and only uses ingredients that have their own crest! There are huge wood-burning ovens int the kitchen and the staff invite diners to come right in and watch it all happen. We ended up standing around a huge table in the back of the kitchen and because of our increased capacity, all stuffed in slice after slice of the good stuff. I hope Ruby had a wonderful birthday because I certainly enjoyed every second of it!

The good stuff.

Chris and the birthday boy share their enthusiasm for the dining experience.

Many of these were consumed.

The crew dines.

We finished off our dinner with these Nutella semifredos. Unbelievable.

Weekend Redux

Dinner with the beautiful Mattie.

Saw Corey’s band play.

Breakfast at Java Jive.

Beers at The Porter.

We had to say goodbye to Jean-Philippe. As they say in France, Bon Voyage!

Weekend redux.

On Friday night, I grabbed a beer with my good friend Aria at Bookhouse. We had a much-needed catch-up and I heard all about her epic hiking trip through North Georgia into Tennessee. She survived almost two weeks of camping and hike over 100 miles. Aspiration and inspiration for me! After a long sleep (5am was not my alarm), I caught up with Ruby and Jean-Philippe for a birthday brunch to celebrate our French visitor. We headed over to Sun In My Belly for a reliably delicious meal. Afterwards, we walked in the staggering heat to Criminal Records to see Gun Outfit, some friends of ours touring from Olympia, WA. The band is a real ripper and while the show was not heavily attended, it certainly should have been. We celebrated Jean-Philippe’s birthday with the band, some vegetarian food, and cupcakes. We even attempted to sing to him in French with mixed results to say the least. Sunday was laid back and quiet but we caught the World Cup game and cheered Spain on. Paella prevails!

Road Trip

We had Monday off which was amazing and we enjoyed every bit of it with a trip to see the Georgia Guidestones. Jean-Philippe found these for us and they are just about the strangest thing I have yet to see in Georgia. Basically, this unidentified donor wanted to erect America’s version of Stonehenge with inscriptions guiding people towards sustenance and conservation. So he scoured the country and of course he chose Elberton, GA – the granite capital of the US. On the way we stopped at a random rural gas station to get some treats and on the way home, we enjoyed a dip in Lake Hartwell. Enjoy the pics:

Slumming it in the US of A.

Corey and Rachel - cutest siblings.

Cheerwine, an elusive treat.

Ruby!

And finally, the Georgia Guidestones.

Hostess

Rachel, Corey’s sister is in town from Bellingham, WA. And our good friend Jean-Philippe is visiting from Paris. We have been out and about today enjoying the Atlanta sights. First off, a little breakfast at Rise-n-Dine in Emory Village and then off to Oakland Cemetery for a good ol’ gothic Southern time.

Congratulations!

This is my friend Caroline who I have mentioned is a near and dear from my days at Vassar. She is awesomely creative, a total cutie, can cut a rug on the dance floor, looks great in a jumpsuit and is now engaged! I wish her and her also-incredibly-talented intended the biggest and best for their engagement (and rest of their lives!).
